The man on the left wears a hat, long-sleeved shirt, pants and shoes; he faces right and leans over the pump with his right hand on the handle. The man on the right wears a hat, long-sleeved shirt, pants; he faces left with both hands on the handle. The pump is rectangular with a thin handle. A small bird with a long neck and tail stands to the right of the pump. In the background are sketched trees and a fence on the right. Some illegible writing appears at the bottom. The sketch is titled "At the Pump" and is by artist William Sidney Mount.
