Embroidered Towel (Peshkir)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The embroidered towel, a Peshkir by an unknown artist, is rectangular with a large off-white square in the center. The center square is surrounded by a wide border with intricate floral patterns. The border consists of curving lines and shapes adorned with small flowers in shades of peach, cream, blue and green on a tan background. The border is present on all four sides, with the left and right sides being longer and more ornate than the top and bottom. The towel has a worn, aged appearance with frayed edges.
