Folding Fan: Figures and Ornaments in Applique

Folding fan with decorated semi-circular head, short cylindrical handle. The head has thirty-two ribs, twenty-four of which have white interstices; semi-circular latticework on the bottom third; the top two-thirds have brown fabric with applied polychrome ornaments; the border has flowers and curvilinear motifs; the ribs are joined at the top by a guard with a scroll design; the fabric on the reverse side is gold; the guard and rivet are ivory; the handle has ten segments with floral scrolls. Ornamental appliqué figures and ornaments. The fan depicts four women; one woman wears a blue dress; one wears a pink dress; one sits on a low platform; one sits beside a blue and pink pavilion; there are also pink, blue, and white flowers; a teapot and teacup; furniture; a blue and white vase; and a covered pot.
