Annibale Fontana

Cleveland Museum of Art

The plaque depicts a scene with a muscular, nude male figure, presumably Hercules, wrestling a three-headed dog, presumably Cerberus. The dog on all fours faces left; has three heads with ears and tongues out; tail resembling a lion's. The male figure standing on right; right arm raised; left arm grasping one of the dog's heads; cloth or object wrapped around right forearm; short curly hair. Background of plaque shows grass, plants, and two trees. Gray gradient background behind the plaque.
