Spoon with Fish-Tail Design

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a silver Spoon with Fish-Tail Design. The spoon is made of a dark silver metal with a patina. The bowl of the spoon is oval; it is wider than it is long and the edges are rounded. The handle is long and slender; the top end finishes in a fishtail design. The fishtail design consists of a central triangular ridge and two tapered, curved prongs on each side that terminate in a point; the prongs are concave on the outside and convex on the inside. The handle is decorated around the top third with two raised horizontal lines separated by a shallow groove; below the lines are incised angled diagonal lines. The spoon casts a shadow to the lower right. The background is a gradient from black at the top to white at the bottom.
