Guqin made by Zhang Ruixiu of Suzhou

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Guqin made by Zhang Ruixiu of Suzhou, a traditional Chinese zither, features a long, narrow body made of dark wood. The instrument's body is approximately rectangular in shape with rounded edges and has a flat bottom. It is positioned diagonally across the image. The top surface of the instrument has 7 strings, with 8 round, light-colored tuning pegs on the right side. A short, curved protrusion is on the left end. A bundle of thin, yellow strings emerges from a rectangular opening at the end of the instrument. Two small, cylindrical legs protrude from the bottom. The background is a gradient of light gray to dark gray.
