Sword Guard (Tsuba) with Reeds and Geese

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a circular object with a dark brown, rusted metal surface. The object has three oval-shaped holes. The top hole is triangular with a rounded base, while the two others are symmetrical on either side. A design on top shows two geese flying one behind the other, towards the right. Their eyes are made of gold or brass. A cluster of reeds is carved into the bottom of the object. The background transitions from black at the top to dark gray at the bottom. The overall object appears to be a sword guard.
