Sword Guard (Tsuba)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The sword guard, or Tsuba, made by an unknown artist, is circular with a textured dark brown surface. The guard has a large central oval-shaped hole and two smaller curved cutouts on either side. It features a design with a thin brass-colored vine and four-leaf clover pattern on both sides. The background of the image transitions from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
