Sword Guard (Tsuba) with Geese and Waves

Cleveland Museum of Art

Round metal object with dark brown color and a textured surface. Two geese are visible, one at the top and one at the bottom. The top goose faces right with its neck curved and head tilted upwards. The bottom goose faces upwards with its beak open. Both geese have gold eyes. The geese are surrounded by wavy lines that resemble water. There are gold accents along the edges of the wavy lines and on parts of the geese. The object has a large central hole in the shape of a rounded keyhole. The central hole has gold edges. There are two oval holes on either side of the keyhole. The background of the image is dark gray, gradually getting lighter towards the bottom.
