Bobbin Lace Insertion without Selvage

Cleveland Museum of Art

Off-white, horizontally-oriented bobbin lace on a black background. The lace is long and narrow. The piece has a straight edge on the left and a similar straight edge on the right, both with short tails of thread, one of which has a needle still threaded through it. The body of the lace consists of a long, straight part with an approximately repeating pattern throughout. The pattern has two parallel straight rows of curved stitches on either side of a central straight row of open loops. The two rows of curved stitches on each side are also connected by open loops. The left and right sides of the central straight row of loops have a line of holes. The curved stitches on each side are irregularly teardrop-shaped. The entire piece appears to be made of thread.
