Slendang (Shoulder Cloth)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Slendang (Shoulder Cloth) is a long, narrow textile with a frayed top and bottom edge. The top and bottom edges have short, dark brown fringe. The main body of the textile is a faded reddish-brown color with a pattern of geometric shapes in lighter brown. The geometric shapes are diamond-shaped and arranged in a symmetrical pattern down the center of the textile. The background of the textile is a lighter shade of reddish-brown than the geometric shapes. The textile is rectangular in shape. The textile has a few darker brown spots on the right side. The background behind the textile is light gray.
