Segawa Kikunojo (Roko) Holding an Umbrella

Torii Kiyomitsu

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a Japanese woodblock print of a man dressed in traditional clothing holding an umbrella. The man has dark hair pulled back and is wearing a dark green robe with wide sleeves and an intricate design on the chest and hem. The robe has pink accents on the inside and a decorative trim along the edges. He is also wearing geta-style wooden sandals. The man holds a large parasol or umbrella above his head with his right hand. The umbrella has a pink interior and a black exterior with a patterned band around the middle. There are several lines of Japanese text written vertically and horizontally around the man, including some that appear to be the artist's signature. The background of the print is a light beige color.
