Fragment of Needlepoint (Cutwork) Lace

Square piece of off-white cutwork lace with a floral design and leaf-like motifs. The lace has a thick decorative border around the edge with a pattern of interconnected loops. Inside the border is an intricate design featuring a central double-headed bird-like figure with outstretched wings. The bird-like figure is surrounded by four square sections, each containing a different pattern: - a flower-like design - a leaf-like design - two interlocking bow-like designs. The background of the lace is mostly cut out, with scattered small holes around the design. The lace appears to be made of a lightweight fabric, possibly linen or cotton.
