The Annunciation

Albert Bouts

Cleveland Museum of Art

The Annunciation by Albert Bouts: A painting depicting a scene with two people in a room. The room has white walls, a tiled floor with squares and diamonds in shades of blue, brown, beige and white. The woman on the right has long red hair and wears a teal robe with gold trim; she has her hands clasped together near her chest and holds a book with her left hand. The person on the left is an angel with short curly red hair, blue wings, and wears a light blue robe with a green and purple cloak with gold trim. The angel's right hand is extended towards the woman and the left hand holds a staff. There is a table with a red cloth to the right, with two books on top and a vase with flowers below; a bed with a pink cover is behind the figures. The room has three windows: one large pointed-arch window with stained glass and shutters in the background; and two other openings on either side, one with another room visible through it.
