Decorated Initial (P) (Excised from a Bible?)

Cleveland Museum of Art

Decorated initial "P" excised from a Bible. The letter is blue and gold, with intricate designs. The letter "P" is formed by a long vertical line that extends down and curves outward at the bottom. The top right of the "P" is flat. The top left curves outward. The inside of the "P" and the right side are decorated with a large teardrop-shaped design with gold curvy lines on a blue background, resembling foliage. The vertical line has a gold border on either side, with repeating diamond shapes and a Celtic knot pattern on the top left. Two white doves are present, one on the top right and one on the bottom right of the teardrop design. The background of the image is dark gray.
