Lot and His Daughters (recto) Sketch for Lot and His Daughters (verso)

Pietro da Cortona

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a diptych artwork. The left panel depicts a sketch of a biblical scene with three figures: two women and one man. The man sits on the left with his legs crossed, wearing a cloth wrapped around his waist; the woman on the right sits with her legs together, wearing a long dress and her hair tied back; another figure is behind her. The background shows a tree branch above them and another figure in the distance to the right. The artwork is done in brown pencil or chalk on a grayish-beige background with darker spots and stains. The right panel is a blank sketch with faint lines and a large stain in the top-right corner; it has small black numbers in the bottom-right corner. The artwork appears to be old and on paper.
