Landscape with a lotus pool, from a Tuti-nama (Tales of a Parrot), Eighth Night

Gujarati

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a page from a book, with text written in a non-Latin script at the top, and an illustration at the bottom. The text is written in black ink on yellowed paper and fills the top two thirds of the image. The script appears to be Arabic or Persian. The text is divided into sections by thin black lines, and some of the sections have blue accents. The illustration at the bottom of the page depicts a scene with a pink background, possibly representing water or sky. There are several green trees and plants along the bottom edge of the page, including what appears to be a palm tree. In front of the trees, there is a low wall made of red bricks, with a flat top. The wall has a small staircase leading up to it on the left side. The overall composition of the image suggests that it is a page from an illuminated manuscript, possibly from the Middle East or South Asia. The style of the calligraphy and illustration is consistent with the artistic traditions of these regions.
