The Book of Job: Pl. 17, I have heard thee with the hearing of the Ear but now my Eye seeth thee

William Blake

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a black and white illustration. The illustration depicts a central rectangular scene: a woman with a long head covering and robe stands on the left with her right hand on the head of a man sitting on the ground to her right. The man has long hair and a beard and one arm around another man sitting on the ground to his right. A third man lies on the ground behind them. The background shows a sun or moon with rays extending out and clouds on either side. Above the central scene, curved text surrounds a simple line drawing of mountains. Below the central scene, text reads: "I have heard thee with the hearing of the Ear but now my Eye seeth thee". At the bottom, an open book with rolled up pages contains more text. The paper background is off-white with darker spots and stains.
