Master of the Brussels Initials and Associates

This medieval manuscript page shows an illustration of a man in a religious habit. The man has a long white beard and holds a book and a shepherd's staff. He sits on a patterned gold background within a rounded frame outlined in green. The frame is decorated with a red and blue crest at the top. A column of colorful ornamentation runs vertically along the left side of the image. The column is made up of floral shapes connected by curving stems. The illustration includes birds and insects scattered throughout. The edges of the page are decorated with a border containing more curving stems with flowers and leaves. A large segment of text takes up much of the right side. The text is written in a language using black ink and some red ink. A red title sits atop the text.
