The Crucifixion
The Crucifixion by an unknown artist. A sculpture made of light-colored stone or ivory depicts a scene with four people. A man with long hair and a beard, wearing a loincloth, hangs from a cross, with his right leg bent and left leg straight, and his left arm bent at the elbow. He appears to be nailed to the cross. Two women on the left side of the sculpture are dressed in long robes and appear to be mourning; one covers her face with her hands, while the other looks down. A third person on the left stands with their hands clasped together. The sculpture sits on a flat base against a dark background.
