Kitchen Utensils with Leeks, Fish, and Eggs

Jean-Siméon Chardin

Cleveland Museum of Art

The painting depicts a still life on a table. A large copper pot with a handle and lid is positioned to the left of center. To the left of the pot is a dark bowl with a pipe-like object resting in it, and to the left of the bowl are two green leeks with white and brown roots. In front of and to the right of the pot is a white cloth, a halved orange, and three white eggs. To the right of the eggs is a mortar and pestle. The background is a dark brown wall. The table is made of stone slabs.
