Perspective Pictures for The Treasure House of Loyalty

Kitao Masayoshi

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a scene of people gathered on stone steps. The steps are wide and made of stone, with a low railing on the left side. A group of people, mostly women, are seated on the steps. Some of them wear traditional Japanese clothing. A woman in a white kimono stands on the steps, and another woman sits on the steps to the right. In the background, there is a large body of water with boats on it. On either side of the steps, there are buildings with tiled roofs and trees. The sky is light pinkish-gray. There is a vertical column of Japanese text on the right side of the image. The entire image is bordered by a thin black line, and the paper is aged and torn.
