Flowers of a Hundred Worlds (Momoyogusa): Flower-draped Carts (Hanasashiguruma)

Kamisaka Sekka

Cleveland Museum of Art

A colorful Japanese woodblock print depicts a green, flower-draped cart with large black wheels and a gold and green patterned roof. The cart has a large black wheel on the left side and another on the bottom center, with a green and blue body adorned with wisteria, ferns, and other green plants. Three women are on the left side: one wearing a pink kimono sits with her back to the viewer; another woman behind her wears a blue kimono; and a third woman stands behind the cart, wearing a white kimono with a yellow band on her left arm, her left hand near her face. The background features a beige wall with white cherry blossoms in the upper left and green plants on the right.
