Portfolio I, Plate 38: Sunset in Navaho-Land

Edward S. Curtis

Cleveland Museum of Art

Sepia-toned photograph of four silhouetted people on horseback. The people are positioned on a small hill; they are sitting on the horses, facing away from the camera. The hill they are on is covered with dirt and sparse vegetation. The horses are positioned side-by-side and are all facing to the left. The sky behind them is cloudy; the clouds are dense and cover most of the sky. The photograph has a light-colored border around it, with text at the bottom left that reads "SUNSET IN NAVAHO-LAND". There is additional small text at the bottom right and center but it is illegible.
