Decanter

Harry Powell

Cleveland Museum of Art

The decanter by Harry Powell is a clear glass object with a teardrop-shaped body and a long, thin neck. The body of the decanter has a wide base that tapers up to a narrower middle section, then flares out slightly before narrowing again to meet the neck. The neck is cylindrical and has a rounded top. The decanter features a series of thin, light-green lines etched into its surface in a curved, concentric pattern. A metal wire, possibly silver, is wrapped around the neck and middle of the decanter in a spiral design. A small loop of the same wire extends from the spiral wrapping, curving down over the body. The decanter sits on a flat surface, casting a shadow underneath. The background is dark at the top, gradually lightening to a grayish-white towards the center, then darkening again at the bottom.
