Leaf from a Kalighat album: Krishna as Kali worshipped by Radha (recto); Krishna quells the serpent Kaliya (verso)

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts two paintings on either side. The left painting shows a blue-skinned figure with eight arms, wearing a yellow dhoti and a red and white shawl. The figure has a halo behind its head and holds various objects in its hands, including a sword and a severed head. A woman sits at the figure's feet. The right painting shows a blue serpent-like figure with a humanoid head, surrounded by three people. Two women in red and white clothing stand on either side of the serpent, while a man in orange and black clothing stands on top of it. The background of both paintings is a light-brown color. The paintings are likely from a Kalighat album, featuring Krishna as Kali worshipped by Radha and Krishna quelling the serpent Kaliya.
