Portrait of Sir Frederick W. Burton, Director of the National Gallery, London
A pencil drawing of a man with short, thinning hair on a piece of yellowed paper. The man is drawn facing left, slightly above a three-quarter view. He has a beard and mustache, and wears a collared shirt and jacket. The jacket appears to be dark on the shoulders and lighter lower down. The shirt and collar are visible at the neck. The background is plain. The drawing is signed in cursive handwriting in the top right corner. The writing appears to say "a mon ami F.W. Burton" on one line, and "A. Legros 1881" on the second line. The edges of the paper are rough and slightly discolored. The drawing takes up most of the space on the paper.
