Egypt and Nubia, Volume I: Portico of the Temple of Kalabshe

Louis Haghe

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image depicts a sepia-toned illustration of an ancient Egyptian temple. The temple's portico is prominently featured, with a large rectangular structure in the center, supported by six columns. The columns are adorned with intricate carvings and have ornate capitals. The portico's entablature is partially destroyed, with large cracks and crumbling sections. The foreground shows a collection of large stone blocks scattered on the ground, some of which appear to be carved with decorative elements. In the background, to the left of the portico, a smaller structure with a similar architectural style is visible. A group of people in long robes stands near the left structure. On the right side of the image, another building is partially visible. The sky above is light gray and cloudless. At the bottom of the image, the text "PORTICO OF THE TEMPLE OF KALABSHI" is printed in small orange letters.
