Egypt and Nubia, Volume III: Mosque of Sultan Hassan, from the Great Square of the Rameyleh

Louis Haghe

Cleveland Museum of Art

The image shows a large, beige-colored mosque with a tall, thin tower on the left side and a large dome in the center. The tower is striped with horizontal lines and has a pointed top. The dome is surrounded by a square building with many windows and arches. In front of the mosque, there is a large open area with many people standing around. Some of the people are on camels or horses. There are also some trees and bushes in the foreground. In the background, there are more buildings and a cloudy sky. At the bottom of the image, there is a line of text that reads "MOSQUE OF SULTAN HASSAN, FROM THE GREAT SQUARE OF THE RAMEYLEH".
