Upper stele with hand for Krishna Lifting Mount Govardhan

Cleveland Museum of Art

Upper stele with hand for Krishna Lifting Mount Govardhan by Unknown. The image shows a fragmented, weathered stone sculpture. The main body of the sculpture is a large, irregularly shaped piece of stone with a rough, light beige color. The stone piece is angled to the right. There are two small rectangular pieces of white material attached to the stone on either side. The top portion of the stone features a raised, three-dimensional depiction of a hand with the palm facing downwards. The hand appears to be emerging from the top of the stone. The lower portion of the stone has a more detailed relief carving of two bovine creatures, likely cows or bulls. The background of the image transitions from dark gray at the top to light gray at the bottom.
