Card Table

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Card Table by artist Duncan Phyfe has a hexagonal tabletop made of wood with a hinge down the middle. The tabletop surface is smooth and flat with slightly raised edges. The tabletop is made of two equal pieces connected at the hinge. The base of the table consists of four legs shaped like a winged animal's claw. Each leg ends in a paw with toes. The legs curve up and connect to form two curved supports that resemble a lyre. The curved supports are adorned with carved designs. The base of the legs is decorated with a carved band. The entire table has a dark color. The background is white.
