Compote

William Gale and Son

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a large, silver compote with a wide bowl and a narrow stem. The bowl has a decorative Greek key pattern around the top edge. Two ram's head handles are on either side of the bowl, each with a ring hanging from its mouth. The stem is decorated with a square panel featuring a face on the front. The base of the compote is round and flat, with the same Greek key pattern as the bowl. The compote is engraved with cursive text on the front of the bowl. The background of the image is light gray, with a white border around the edges.
