Cup and Saucer

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Cup and Saucer by artist depicts two pieces of white ceramic tableware. A small cup with a wide mouth and a short base sits on the left. On the outside of the cup near the base is an eagle design with spread wings, holding branches with leaves in its talons. A similar eagle design is on the inside of a large saucer on the right. The saucer is wide and shallow and features the eagle centered on the inside base. The eagle on both pieces faces forward with its wings spread out to the sides. Above the eagle on the saucer are three stacked crown-like shapes. The background is plain and light-colored.
