Cupboard

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image shows a wooden cupboard by artist Grinling Gibbons. The cupboard has a rectangular shape and two stacked sections. The top section, slightly smaller than the bottom, features a flat top with ornate carvings along the front edge. Two dark, ornately carved pillars on either side support this section. The front of the top section includes a central rectangular panel flanked by two smaller rectangular panels. The bottom section is larger with a flat top and two rectangular panels on the front. The entire piece exhibits intricate carvings throughout, including floral patterns on the front edges and sides of both sections, and a wheel-like design on the front edge of the top section. The feet of the cupboard are short and simple. The background is plain white.
