Apothecary Jar

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Apothecary Jar by an unknown artist depicts a white ceramic vessel with blue designs. The vessel is tall and cylindrical with a wide mouth and a slightly narrow base. The blue designs on the vessel include a band of oval shapes around the top edge, a floral pattern on the upper middle section, and a band of leaves and flowers around the lower middle section. There are also two horizontal lines on either side of the floral pattern. A blue and white floral design is painted on the front. The background of the image is gray, transitioning from dark at the top to light at the bottom. The object casts a slight shadow on the surface below it.
