Black and white oval portrait of a woman, titled "Mrs. Annie C. Hyde" by John Wood Dodge. The woman has dark hair parted down the middle and styled in waves on either side of her head. Her hair does not have bangs. The woman's right shoulder is bare; she wears a dark-colored velvet shawl or wrap over her left shoulder. The fabric appears to be bunched up near her chest where her right hand grips it. The background behind the woman is lighter near the center and darker near the oval portrait's border. The oval portrait of the woman is surrounded by a thin rope-like border. The oval portrait is itself placed in a larger gray frame with decorative molding along the top edge. The frame has rounded scalloped edges on either side. Small carved floral motifs are present on the upper corners and lower left corner of the frame.
