Woman Prostrate Before a Nobleman; Nude Bather Seated on a Rock (Diana?) (from Sketchbook)

Thomas Sully

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a sketch with two distinct scenes. On the left, a group of approximately 10 people is shown, with one individual standing prominently in the center-right, wearing a long coat or robe, breeches, and boots. To his left, a person is on their knees or prostrate on the ground, facing right toward him. On the right side of the image, a nude figure of a woman is seated on a rock, possibly drying herself with a cloth; her hair is long and curly. The entire sketch is rendered in black lines on a light gray background.
