Dulcigno (from Sketchbook)

Mary Newbold Sargent

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Black and white pencil drawing of a town on a cliffside. The cliffside and buildings are drawn on a slight angle, with the left side closer to the viewer. There is a body of water in front of the cliffside. The buildings are multi-story with flat roofs. Some of the buildings have towers. The cliffside drops off sharply to the water on the left side. A wall runs along the top of the cliffside. The drawing is in a black frame and there is handwritten text in the bottom right corner. The text reads "Dulcigno" on one line and "Apr. 5 04" on the second line. There is more illegible text on the third line. The background behind the frame is plain white.
