Jardinière

Union Porcelain Works

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Ceramic jardinière with a wide flared mouth and a flat white interior. The exterior of the mouth is cream-colored with a red border at top and bottom. A band of Egyptian-inspired blue, green, red and yellow flowers and buds encircles the mouth. A thick brown band separates the mouth from a lower cylindrical section on three legs. Two brown rabbit-like handles protrude from either side. The legs have textured sides and white and red feet. The cylindrical section is pale blue with a scene in white relief of three figures working in a pottery workshop. A thin orange and geometric patterned band encircles the bottom.
