Wheellock Rifle

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Wheellock Rifle by artist is a long firearm with intricate engravings and designs on its surface. The stock of the rifle features a pattern of small dots and swirling lines. A curved trigger guard is visible underneath the grip. On top of the rifle, near the center, a mechanism with a wheel-like component and a frizzen is present. A small, T-shaped piece of metal protrudes from the right side of the mechanism. The butt of the rifle is not visible, as it extends out of frame to the right. The background of the image is light gray.
