Sword-Hilt Collar and Pommel (Fuchigashira)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Two parts of a sword hilt, likely made of metal. The top piece is shaped like a half-oval or a boat. The top half is gold-colored and the bottom half is dark-colored, possibly brown or black. The gold side has curved black lines on either side and a round gold design with a black center in the middle. The black side features a semicircle of raised pleats. The bottom piece is a dark brown band with a snarling animal head centered on it. The animal head appears to be a demon or a lion. There are curved gold lines on either side of the head. The background is gray.
