Sword Guard (Tsuba)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Circular, dark brown metal object with a cut-out design. The cut-out design features a central elongated oval shape with a rounded top and flat bottom. Two rounded shapes on either side resemble ears. A curved line above the oval shape forms a head or hair. A flat, curved line extends from the bottom of the oval shape. The background is light gray. The object appears to be a sword guard, known as a Tsuba, by an unknown artist.
