Leather Lamellar Armor

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Leather lamellar armor by unknown artist. The armor is made of numerous small, rectangular pieces of reddish-brown leather, arranged in horizontal rows and stitched together with tan cord. The leather pieces have frayed edges. The cord is woven in a grid pattern, forming a flexible and protective garment. A thick, black, curved piece of leather or metal is at the top center. Two short, thick straps with braided tan cord are on either side, near the top. The bottom edge has a fringe of loose leather strips. The background is light gray.
