Part of a Brigandine (Right Thigh Defense)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

This piece of armor is a tan color with a rough, uneven shape. The top edge is relatively straight while the right side and bottom edge are jagged. The top edge has small holes spaced about 1/8 inch apart. The majority of the piece is covered in small, round metal plates that are arranged in rows. Each plate has a circular shape with a central rivet. The plates are spaced closely together and are attached to the tan material, likely leather or fabric, by the rivets. There are areas where the metal plates are missing or damaged. The background of the image is a solid gray color.
