Knife Handle (Kozuka)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Rectangular black object with a raised design. The design features a scene with a thatched roof structure on the right side, and waves on the left. The thatched roof is gold-colored and has a long, thin eave. Under the eave are two white legs or pillars. A dark, possibly wood, object crosses through the roof and appears to rest on the waves. The waves are depicted in shades of brown and gold. The background of the design is black, and the entire object has a textured surface. The object, titled "Knife Handle (Kozuka)" and attributed to artist Gassan Sadatoshi, is set against a gray background.
