Off-white paper with darker edges. A letter written in cursive ink. The letterhead reads "War Office, United States May 27th 1796." The body consists of ten lines of cursive text. The text reads: "Sir, I have the honor to deliver you the medal directed by the resolve of Congress of the 4th of October 1786. The illustrious testimony of your distinguished merit by the august representatives of the United States and the noble present which they honor in their act will forever speak your glory and their magnanimity. May you, Sir, accept of my sincere wishes that you may long enjoy in health and in happiness the honors of your country I am With great respect Your most obedient Humble servant Knox." The letter is signed to "Colonel Marinus Willett." The bottom and top edges are uneven and rough.
