Okitsu

Utagawa Hiroshige

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Okitsu by Utagawa Hiroshige: A mountain with a curved top sits on the horizon. The lower half of the mountain is covered in trees and the upper half is bare. The mountain has two sharp peaks on its right side. Behind it are hazy mountains under a blue and white sky. In the middle ground, a river with blue water flows from right to left. On the right riverbank people carry baskets on their heads and walk along the sand. Three people and two oxen are on the left riverbank. Everyone wears a hat. The artwork's color palette features beige, blue, red, pink, black, and green. The image includes black Japanese characters on a white background on the left and right. A red banner with black Japanese characters is on the top right. A circular signature is on the bottom right. The image has a beige background with a black border.
