A Pair of Quails and Poppies

Utagawa Hiroshige

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Vertical rectangular image with a beige background. A brown and yellow bird with a distinctive feather pattern, facing right and slightly downward, with one leg visible and the other obscured. The bird's body is angled towards the bottom-left corner. Two red poppy flowers with green stems and leaves are behind and above the bird. One flower is fully visible at the top, and another partially visible behind the bird's back. The poppy stem has several green leaves and extends from the bottom to the top of the image. Two vertical lines of black Japanese text are on either side, with two small red seals, one on each side, near the bottom.
