Swallows and Wild Cherry

Utagawa Hiroshige

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Vertical rectangular artwork with a beige background that fades to pink at the top and blue at the bottom. Four swallows are flying down and to the right, their bodies angled down. The top swallow has a black head, a red face and neck, and black and white body with black and red wings. The three swallows below have similar coloration, but their bodies are more white than black. A branch with green leaves and red cherries extends from the bottom right corner up and to the left. The swallows fly toward the branch. Japanese text is written vertically on the left side and near the bottom right. Two red seals are on the left. The artwork's border is white.
