Onoe Tamizo as a Woman Standing, Facing to the Right

Katsukawa Shunshō 勝川春章

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The image depicts a standing male actor dressed as a woman, facing right. He wears a traditional Japanese kimono with a design of orange and purple circular patterns on a cream-colored background, and a hat resembling a traditional Japanese headpiece. The kimono is wrapped around the body and secured with an obi; a long sash trails from the waist. The actor holds a black folding fan with a circular design in his right hand. The background of the image is a mottled light brown color with a white border. There are some Japanese characters written vertically on the left side.
